The Territory of Heard Island and McDonald Islands (HIMI), the HIMI Marine Reserve and this
website are managed by the Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) of the Department of the Environment
and Heritage.
The AAD headquarters is located in Kingston, south of Hobart in Tasmania, Australia. Information about the AAD can be found on the About Us pages of the AAD website.

Volcanic activity in the last decade has caused McDonald Island to double in size, now covering about 2.5 square kilometres. Also, the previously separate McDonald and Flat Islands are now joined by a low isthmus.
