The Heard Island and McDonald Islands (HIMI) Marine Reserve is located in the southern Indian Ocean, approximately 4,100 kilometres south-west of Perth, Western Australia.
The Reserve covers an area of approximately 71,200 square kilometres. It includes Heard Island and the McDonald Islands, the surrounding 12 nautical mile territorial sea, plus an extended marine area which extends in parts to the 200 nautical mile Exclusive Economic Zone boundary.
